Which is exactly what a group of NFL living legends did during Super Bowl week. Doug Williams, Warren Moon, Antwan Randle-Eland Donovan McNabb’s parents were among those playing in an outing hosted by the National Football Players Father’s Association. Now’s the time to bring your son or daughter, or dad, out to enjoy a walk or ride around the first public Arnold Palmer Signature Course in the area and one of Jacksonville’s truly public courses. Owner/Operator T.C. Newman credits superintendent Mitch Wessel with getting Mill Cove into what many recent players believe is the best condition it has been in 15 years. The quality of the greens are as good as any in the entire Jacksonville area! While many of the most player-critical updates on the course have been completed, there’s still work going on at Mill Cove as Newman and his staff add a new entrance and expand their grand foyer to welcome their daily guests and growing business in charitable and corporate outings. The recent completion of a project to close in the deck overlooking the course adds 1,500 more square feet of adaptable space for groups to meet before and after golf.
Newman is one of only a handful of African-American golf course owners in the country and Mill Cove was among the first courses to remove gender from its tee markers. You’ll find Mill Cove’s tees designated as Championship (Purple), Medal (Gold), Club (White), Middle (Silver) and Forward (Green).Whatever you call them, Mill Cove offers equal opportunity for every player’s skill ability. Now at nearly 6,800 yards from those Championship tees, and with the impeccable conditioning of Wessel’s crew, Newman has also felt the need to add new carts designed for the elevation changes in the rolling fairways that also set Mill Cove apart from many area courses. A new unlimited-play annual membership with no extra fees proves that Mill Cove, now more than ever before, is delivering country club conditions golfers crave at the public prices they can appreciate. |
