TPC Sawgrass - Now It’s Your Turn to Enjoy Improvements

You remember the shot Tiger hit at the island green 17th, or Vijay’s into the 18th, or any number of players who almost aced the par-3 13th? Sometimes we forget in all the hoo-hah over the unbelievable transformation of the TPC Sawgrass for the “new” PLAYERS Championship in May that for the other 51 weeks of the year, all of the millions spent on improvements to the course, not to mention the brand new $32-million clubhouse, are for our enjoyment. And now that experience is at a whole new level.

The changes to the golf course alone will ensure that when we come out for that “round of a lifetime”, it’ll actually happen. The new sand base below the Bermuda fairways drains so much better than before, and high-tech drainage systems under the greens will keep those rounds you’d been dreaming of for weeks from getting drowned out by a passing shower. You’ll also get a more “professional” feel all around the course with firmer and faster fairways, deeper bunkers, and more chipping and bump-and-run options than before. Another pro-style amenity you’re going to grow to love is forecaddies with each group to help with the pace of play, besides the option of having your own caddie.

The new TOUR Academy TPC Sawgrass, complete with two indoor hitting bays, is in place on the right side of the enlarged practice facility, featuring two, three and even five-day instructional programs that might have you playing a little closer to those pros you’ll likely see on the practice range any day of the week.

And the clubhouse? What an improvement to your before and after-round activities. Clubs from all the past champs adorn a hallway and the rest of the clubhouse looks like a golf showplace, with paintings of the past winners and murals depicting scenes from the final three holes adorning the lobby. If you can convince your spouse, you can join the 150 other couples giving their “I do’s” in the gorgeous Mediterranean Revival-style clubhouse that’s in keeping so much of the architecture along the First Coast. And the ambiance at “Nineteen”, the grill and expansive veranda overlooking the ninth and 18th greens? If a round at the TPC Sawgrass weren’t enough “wow factor”, all the new amenities will put it over the top.
