One visit to Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club and you will experience a new level of service, and new level of professionalism and St. Augustine's highest degree of course conditioning. Opened in 2001 this par-71, 6,529-yard championship course, was designed by renowned architect J. Christopher Commins, ASGCA. A graduate of the University of Florida, Commins education and years of training with Mark McCumber has allowed him to create a championship caliber daily fee golf course of which St. Augustine was in great need.

"We took great care in utilizing the golf layout as the critical interface between the natural wetlands that run through the site." Commins states, "affording the golfer a more naturalized setting than we typically see in most new golf courses."

Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country ClubThe golf course is well recognized as the finest conditioned daily fee golf facility in the St. Augustine area. When you arrive, a tastefully appointed clubhouse with an abundantly stocked golf shop and a great tavern greets you for breakfast, lunch or just a cold drink before or after your day on the links. The staff of Royal St. Augustine is energetic, respectful and efforts make your golf experience a special one.

Since it's inception, Royal St. Augustine has enjoyed tournament-like conditions. When you couple these conditions with a challenging and intriguing design you certainly end up with a wonderful test of golf. The first hole a robust par-5 puts a premium on a well-placed drive and allows the longer hitters a chance to be on the green in two.

The second hole a pristine par-3 with water and marsh left and a large catchers mitt green will reward a tee shot of the correct length that may lack accurate direction. The third hole is a very challenging short par-4, a three-wood or long iron at this hard dogleg right will leave you a wedge in a great birdie opportunity. The fourth through seventh are open challenging holes that provide wonderful scoring opportunities and reward well-placed shots.

The eighth hole is reminiscent of a Pete Dye creation with an undulating fairway and large challenging moguls; a premium is placed on the drive with an approach to a receptive large green. The eighth hole is a challenging par-3 over protected wetlands to a long undulating green.

Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country ClubThe 10th hole is a rolling par-4 to an uphill green. From this green you get a panoramic look down the par-3, 11th or across at the par-5,12th. The 13th is a par-4 dogleg left featuring an island fairway to a raised target green ? a true test of golf. The 14th a par-3, and 15th a par-4 are designed fair and with player scoring in mind. The 16th a short par-4 when downwind allows the big hitters a chance to drive the green and the rest an opportunity for a tight wedge shot. The 17th is a traditionally designed par-4, lengthy with a slight dogleg right to an extra large green. A well-placed drive will give you the chance for a great approach shot. The 18th a rolling par-5 with a dramatic view of the lakes and will allow you to finish like a champion.

"We are always amazed at the consistent enjoyment our patrons get out of their experience at Royal St. Augustine, comments John Eldridge, PGA Professional and Director of Golf since the inception of Royal St. Augustine." "Over and over again people take the time to pull me aside and compliment the level of conditioning and the warm service they receive from staff. That's truly a great feeling."
