Creating the Premier Truly Public Course in North Florida

Sweeping changes and impressive improvements continue to make news at Mill Cove Golf Club, where providing a private golf experience at a truly public course has become priority umber one.Indeed, from the moment golfers arrive at Mill Cove Golf Club to their final putt on the memorable finishing hole, the improvements, additions and upgrades at this longtime favorite are unmistakable. From a course redesign to changes to tee markers and distances and even changes to the facility itself, Mill Cove owner/operator T.C. Newman continues to make impressive changes to one of Jacksonville's finest public golf courses.

"We have redesigned some of the holes and redesigned the tees to make the course more playable for golfers of all skill levels," said Newman, one of only a few African-American golf course owners in the country.

The course, which has been stretched slightly from 6,600 yard to 6,745 yards from the back tees, now features new tee markers that not only make it easier for golfers to choose their distance, but is also sensitive to women golfers and novices. The tees are now designated as Championship (Purple), Medal (Gold), Club (White), Middle (Silver) and Forward (Green).

"We are one of the first clubs to remove all the sexist designations to our tees," Newman said. "Golfer's can now easily choose the tees that best suit their game."

Mill Cove Golf ClubIn addition to the course changes and tee designators, Newman has added a new professional scoreboard that sits just behind the clubhouse and is viewable from the outside deck. Further, a beautiful new welcome board greets golfers as they arrive at Mill Cove, a clear indication of the memorable golf experience that waits.

What hasn't changed at Mill Cove is the impeccable playing conditions Newman demands of his golf course. In fact, the course is enjoying its most successful overseeding ever and is in unrivaled condition.

"We completely overseeded the golf course - fairways, roughs, greens and tees," Newman said. "The course is in the best shape it?s ever been."

The course, which for some time was the only public Arnold Palmer-designed layout in North Florida, features beautiful rolling fairways that curve along lagoons, waste bunkers and beautiful stands of mature trees. Palmer took full advantage of the natural terrain to create a course that both stimulates the senses and tests the limits of one's game.

With so many changes and improvements, Mill Cove Golf Club now delivers country club conditions golfers crave at public golf prices they can appreciate.
