Cimarróne Golf Club - never looked better!

Newly equipped with Paspalum greens to create a consistent state of year-round playability Cimarrone Golf Club is entering a new era. The veteran course located just ten minutes north of the World Golf Village off I-95 has never looked better, but David Postlethwait’s terrific shotmaker’s layout is still tough. Cimarrone Golf Club is a solid measuring stick of your game; play well and you’ll be rewarded, but play poorly and you’ll be penalized.

The course meanders through wetlands and native north Florida forests, and despite being located in the center of a golf community with homes just off the fairways, once you’re round begins you’ll feel like you’ve entered a nature preserve. Water is present on 16 or 18 holes, but forced carries are few and far between as the ponds and marshes merely add to the beauty and character of the holes, as opposed to creating an intimidation factor.

Five sets of tees between 4,700 and 6,900 yards set the stage for an intriguing journey through an atypical Florida experience, complete with rolling fairways and plenty of undulation and mounding. Golf Digest gave Cimarrone a 4-star rating on its “Places to Play” list and the course is consistently recognized by locals and tourists as one of the top layouts in Jacksonville.

Postlethwait saved the best for last, bringing golfers back to the clubhouse with a 439-yard, par-4 finishing hole where water lurks off the tee and as you approach the long, narrow putting surface. Water runs left off the tee, turning across the landing area and flowing into a lagoon along the right side of the fairway. Once you’ve played over and around the water, and the moguls that frame the opposite side, there’s still an enormous bunker guarding the green. After you play it, you’ll likely agree with critics that annually place Cimarrone’s No. 18 among the best 18 holes in Jacksonville.
