They’re not making them like Hyde Park Golf Club anymore. Visitors can play virtually the same course designed by the legendary Scottish architect Donald Ross in 1925.
The gorgeous Southern pines and Spanish oaks that line the course are even more mature and majestic than they were 80 years ago, and lend a special aura to the playing experience. Since the layout has not changed, you can play the same course and face the same shot-making decisions as the legends of the game.
The Jacksonville Open, which evolved into the PLAYERS Championship, began at Hyde Park. A regular stop on the mens and womens professional tours in the ‘40s and ‘50s, Hyde Park was the site of Mickey Wright’s fi rst official pro victory and Sam Snead, Bryon Nelson, Babe Zaharias, Patty Berg and Louise Suggs all were tested at Hyde Park. In fact, if you keep it in single digits on the par-3 sixth, you’ll beat Ben Hogan’s 11 at that very hole one year.
Still owned and operated by former touring pros Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, Hyde Park is a treasure trove of golf history, and invites you to come make your own by exiting I-295 at Wilson, going east, then north on James to Hyde Park.
