Ranked the fifth "Best New Affordable Golf Course in America." in the January 2003 edition of Golf Digest, it is no wonder The Golf Club at Fleming Island was an official qualifying site for the 2003 U.S. Open. This Bobby Wood-designed golf course accentuates Florida's most beautiful natural features. The front and back nines are as different in design as in surroundings.
The front is cut out of the east side of the plantation where open fairways lined with pines and ponds, and huge elevated greens let you grip and rip it! As you play west to the back nine, the scenery changes to swamp and thick woodlands, which plays for a tighter, shorter, shot-maker par-35. This meticulously maintained course plays tough, but remains fair with five sets of tees, and is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
A thoroughly professional staff, the finest practice facility in the area, and a new, stunning plantation clubhouse offer a welcoming ambience that will impress you so that you will want to come back again and again!
Public golfers can discover why club members are already so comfortable here: a casually elegant clubhouse with fully stocked pro shop; a nicely appointed restaurant; an outside snack bar; and a porch for relaxing. The meeting room and administration staff can provide for the business part of a rewarding day of golf at Fleming Island. The large practice tee with five target greens, a sand trap and putting green create the environment for an effective pre-round warm-up and for professional golf staff instruction.
Fleming Island Club’s excellent facilities are a fitting introduction to the exciting par-71 design of Bobby Weed. Five tee settings offer yardages ranging from 4,881 to 6,801. From a blank canvas of ordinary timber and wetlands, Weed sketched two nines of differently styled golf. The front nine is open, with waste areas and wetlands creating a links feeling. The back nine has been carved out of standing timberland, providing an atmosphere of solitude, all within the context of the natural terrain.
